Moving gif banners are actually pretty simple to make, they are a bit tedious, but not hard. Basically, it’s a slideshow of images played one after another very fast so it appears to be moving.
The first thing you need to do, if you want to make one for free, is go to pixlr.com and use their free editor. Make an image the size you need- the standard banner size is 468×60. Make whatever image you want, a nice background, and save it. Then change it slightly, something like changing he text or making the text change color, or slightly moving something on the banner, then save it again. Keep saving and then when you have around 10 images saved, you’re ready to turn those into a gif.
The banner above took me quite a few slides, lol. Be sure when you save each one to add a number so you can keep them in order. Once you have the slides you want, go to Dynamic Drive and use their animated gif generator. Upload each image, then you can control how long between the slides, whether or not it repeats itself (generally you want it to repeat), and then generate your gif.
Now, there are many tricks you can use. One thing I like to do is have something appear to be blinking. You can do this by typing something on pixlr, saving it, and then right clicking the text layer on the right. Select layer styles, then select outer glow, and give it a glow of whatever color you like. Then save it again. Take these two images, turn them into a gif with a very fast frame rate, and you have blinking text. It is definitely something that takes a lot of practice, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy and fun to make new things.
